Hospice

Hospice care is a specialized form of care that focuses on the quality of life of people with an advanced, life-limiting illness and their caregivers. Hospice care provides compassionate care for people in the final stages of a terminal illness so they can live as fully and comfortably as possible.

The hospice philosophy views death as the final stage of life: it affirms life, but does not seek to hasten or delay death. Hospice care treats the person and the symptoms of the disease, not the disease itself. A team of professionals works together to relieve the symptoms so that the person can live out their final days surrounded by loved ones with dignity and quality. Hospice care is also family-centered - it involves the patient and their family in the decision-making process.
